For perspektiv
Tallene her ignorerer lån.
Ofte stilte spørsmål
How does Time-to-Afford work?
Enter your gross monthly salary and how many hours you work per week. We estimate your net hourly wage after ~28% Norwegian tax, then divide the item's price by that rate. The result is the number of hours — and therefore working days, weeks, months, years — you'd have to trade for it. Savings rate tells us how much of each working hour actually goes toward the item (if you save 30% of income, only 30% of every hour 'counts' toward buying things).
Why 28% tax?
That's the approximate effective tax rate for a Norwegian earning 600–900k kr/year after all deductions. Your exact rate depends on income bracket, deductions, and municipality. Swap to 30% or 35% if you want a more conservative number — the ratio between items stays the same.
Why does saving rate matter?
Because not all income is discretionary. Saving 30% of gross income means only 30% of each working hour theoretically goes toward new purchases — the rest funds rent, food, taxes, retirement. A Tesla priced at 5 years of income at 100% spend is 16+ years at a 30% savings rate. The savings-rate slider makes this honest.
Isn't this just financial doom-scrolling?
Fair question. The point isn't to make you feel bad about buying an iPhone. It's to recalibrate the unit of value: we instinctively think in kroner but live in hours. Seeing 'iPhone 15 Pro = 78 working hours' instead of '13 990 kr' changes which purchases feel worth it — usually not downward across the board, but more selectively.
What counts as 'arbeidsuker' vs 'leveuker'?
Work week = 37.5 hours. A year has 52 work weeks. Living weeks = 168 hours each (all the weeks in your life, working or not). We use work weeks here because the whole point is comparing price to labor. If you want 'life weeks', divide by ~4.5 (168/37.5 ratio).
